Why I Don’t Date: A Poem

Last Updated: 28 Jul 2020

Poignant and witty response to “Why I don’t date with bipolar disorder.”

I don’t date because waiting for a guy

To call me or text me makes me cry

In frustration and anger

But not towards him

He’s just a nice guy from the internet or the gym

The problem is the ear ringing and the OCD

A mind that races and glazed eyes that can’t see

The guy has done nothing and usually wonders why

I cut things off and start to cry

I can never explain why I always change plans

The rapid heart rate and wringing of hands

The need for my meds and a friend’s understanding

I don’t date because it’s too demanding!
